The Bandstand Busking blog

For the latest news from the Bandstand Busking team.

2017 – a new direction

Since we launched in 2008, we’ve filled the empty bandstands found in parks across London with some of our favourite musical artists. Many of them have gone on to release great albums and even gain Mercury Prize nominations. And we all had a blast doing it!

But we admit – it’s been a little quiet around here recently.

So what’s next?

We’re so excited to bring you news of Bandstand Busking for 2017 and beyond.

Great artists

We are determined to keep finding the best talent out there and bringing them into your bandstands.

Better events

Think a bit more organised, a bar, maybe some food – we’re going to keep improving your experience.

Secret locations

From now on you’ll only find out about the location of the busk the night before it takes place.

A donation

In order to find out where the busk is, you’ll need to donate to Child.org.

Why the donation?

Ian and I (Thomas) have funded Bandstand Busking personally for 7 years now – with incredible support from a huge team of people volunteering their time and effort too. We’re all ok doing that because we love it, but we also feel that what we’ve created and what it offers is of value: three incredible artists, in intimate acoustic gigs, on your doorstep. We aren’t doing it to make money though, so we’ve teamed up with an organisation we believe in and are asking that you donate to them to find out where the busk is.

I’m in, how do I get my ticket?

We’re asking people to donate just £5 to Child.org for the details of this busk. That’s all we ask for three great acts.

So subscribe to the email, make your donation, bring some good friends and get yourself a beer from our brand new bar – we can’t wait to see you at Bandstand Busking 2017.

thanks and we look forward to seeing you all there.

Next busk: Sky Larkin + Diane Cluck + Tom Brosseau // 13 April, Arnold Circus, 12pm // FREE

Leeds trio Sky Larkin played a lovely set of songs for Bandstand Busking back in 2011 –  watch them here – and so we’re delighted to welcome them back to Arnold Circus on their return to the road in 2014. Following the release of the third album ‘Motto’ last autumn and a run of celebratory dates, the band will play a run of UK shows in April as well a European tour later in the Spring.

We’re so happy to welcome Virginia-based songwriter Diane Cluck who describes her music as ‘intuitive folk’. Diane was a part of the New York anti-folk scene and played with artists like Jeffrey Lewis, Kimya Dawson and Devendra Banhart. She is in London for a residency at Cafe Oto in Dalston. Her latest album ‘Boneset’ was released on 4 March this year.

Another happy addition to the bill, brilliant North Dakotan folk singer and storyteller Tom Brosseau will stop by to play some songs for us too. Here he is playing Been True for Bandstand Busking back in 2009. And our Padraic interviewed him too! Tom’s jetting round the UK this week on his Grass Punks album release tour.

See you at Arnold Circus bandstand on Sunday!

Note: Matthew & the Atlas have had to pull out of this month’s busk, but don’t despair because they’ll be back later in the year.

Saturday: Dan Croll and Nick Edward Harris, 1pm, Northampton Square
